Stress Response of the Families of Psychiatric Patients

Abstract
|
|
|
This investigation was designed for identifying stress response of the family members
who have a psychiatric patient in their families. The intent of this investigation is to develop
appropriate nursing interventions that is providing for the care of the family members of
psychiatric patients. The report of the families of psychiatric patients about their own
physiological and psychological stress symptoms those are caused by the patient's psychiatric
illness is useful to make nursing plan for the families.
Symptoms of Stress Inventory was adopted as a tool for the measurement of stress
responses. Raw data were collected using a direct survey method of questionnaire, from
August 25th in 1992 to September 26th in 1992. 178 samples were selected from family
members of psychiatric patients who were hospitalized in psychiatric ward and out-patients in
the department of psychiatry, in four hospitals in Seoul and Kyungki-Povince area.
SPSS program was used for statistical analysis and the data was analyzed in terms of
frequency(percentile score), t-test, F-test, Pearson correlation coefficient.
